This past Saturday night, the world famous British Trance Group Above and Beyond played for a sold out crowd at the Best Buy Theater. They along with Jaytech and Zach Roth gave an amazing performance to say the least.
This was one of Above and Beyond’s most highly anticipated shows as part of their Group World Therapy Tour before they head to Quebec. This was the band’s first stop in New York since 2010 at Electric Zoo. Trance, House and Electro fans alike were eager to see the group as was evidenced by the Thursday Sell out date of their gig. Latecomers were able to get a few tickets at the Box Office itself before completely selling out a second time.
Jaytech was sure to amp up the crowd for the mystical Trance journey that Above and Beyond would be taking them on later. Much to everyone’s expectations they played some of their most famous tracks (both old and new) such as “Sun and Moon”, ”On a Good Day” and “Thing called Love”. They even made sure to throw in Ferry Corsten’s “Punk” and Tiesto’s “It’s a Beautiful World” for good measure which resonated well throughout the audience.
Perhaps the most unique feature about this performance was the crowd interaction. Each time the band wanted to speak to you or take you to a new level they typed live messages onto the display to communicate what they were doing or thinking. Sometime after Jono had to leave the stage due to illness, Paavo took over the both the tables and the keyboard where he continued typing messages and sections of the set such as “ Russia Vs. UK”, “Speakers vs. New York” (R1&R2) and “Miracles”. The most heartfelt of these messages was during a track that Paavo played in which he wrote to the audience “I wrote this song while looking into the eyes of my newborn son”. This was a great way to close out the show as the crowd clapped and cheered even louder for the band in order to show their love.

The concert ended at 4AM sharp but everyone who came out of their couldn’t stop talking about the wonderful experience they just had with Above and Beyond. New York Fans are highly anticipating their return. Perhaps again in September we’ll see them there?
Looking forward to it
See you at the next show!
